WBU Missions Center
Built in1959, the Flores Bible Building has been located on Eighth Street near Gates Hall for nearly 50 years. The building is still structurally sound but can no longer accommodate growing classes and programs. The new 36,000-square-foot facility is planned for the corner of 6th Street and Quincy Street, with the stately chapel spire and stained glass windows adding aesthetically to the campus entrance.
The new Mission Center will become the official clearinghouse for mission projects both on campus and in remote locations, including organizing mission trips to various places. The goal for the Mission Center is to also help area churches develop their own mission projects and to plug into mission work Wayland is doing.
The new facility will feature two stories on the classroom and office side, with the large chapel and lecture hall adjoining. The following will be included:
- Six classrooms with capacity for 30 each, outfitted with basic technology
- Chapel with capacity for 300-350, complete with technology and raised stage
- Lecture hall with capacity for 80-90, set up in stadium seating fashion
- Offices and workroom for the new Missions Center
- Conference room and seminar room
- Faculty and staff office suite with reception and break area
- Office area for Church Services
- Interactive TV equipment in one classroom, wireless capability in entire building
- Student lounge on lower floor
- Computer laboratory for writing and languages
Imagine playing an important role in spreading the Gospel of Christ throughout the world. The Wayland Mission Center is training ministers across all academic disciplines and raising future generations of Christian leaders who will impact their chosen vocational field as well as the kingdom of God.
The proposed new Flores Bible Building that will house the School of Religion & Philosophy and the Wayland Mission Center will allow the University to continue its long tradition of empowering young people to do the work of Christ around the world. The estimated cost for the new building is $11 million. To date they have raised more than $6 million. With your help, they will be able to complete the fund-raising efforts and turn their attention to constructing the facility. If you would like more information or would like to give, please contact:
